After the deal between Nintendo and Sony fell through, Sony continued its development of the disc-based game console that eventually became the Sony PlayStation. Nintendo went on to work with Philips to develop a disc add-on, which resulted in no peripheral or prototype. Due to the contract, Philips developed some Nintendo-themed games for its [[CD-i]] system that were generally considered commercial failures. For its next system, Nintendo would work with SGI to develop the Nintendo 64, an exclusively cartridge-based console.
